Any suggestions? I really don't even care a whole lot, but I'll need to get one in the next few months. I don't plan on gaming much on it, however something that could handle starcraft II would be appreciated, though I don't even know how much that will take. I'll be using it for school work, mostly. Music editing, as well.

I've got a 24 inch Acer monitor, so a laptop that can connect with HDMI would be preferred; and I have some nice m-audio speakers, but I would enjoy the laptop to have competent speakers built in for when I'm on the go.

My friend suggested this one. Not sure why, except for the cool optimus graphics setup.

So yeh, let me know what's up with this stuff.

Go to a store where you can try a lot of different brands, and check out the ergonomics. That is probably the most important factor, and it's not easily discernible from specs. I like the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads best in this area, followed by ASUS. You really need to figure that out for yourself, then look into specifics after you pick a brand. These can probably be matched relatively easily no matter what you choose.

Also, will you have a desktop as well?

I don't think I'm going to get a desktop too. Not right away at least.

I have been looking for a new laptop for a while. Finally settled on a dell studio xps 16. I got it for $750. Currently I am waiting for it to arrive. What type of laptop are you looking for? Multimedia, gaming, portable, or value?

if you're looking for portability and value, then you should get a laptop that is relatively light with either switchable or integrated graphics. dedicated graphics are usually equate to poor battery life. but if you want to be able to play games, then you're going to have to give up some of that battery life in order to for the dedicated card. as for multimedia, any computer with the new i-core process should be able to handle the load. and with the monitor you have, the screen on the laptop does not seem to be as big of an issue.

you should check out http://www.slickdeals.net . if you check in relatively often, you can usually find a great laptop for an awesome price.
