I have an idea for competitive teams in repcom that would be separate from clans. However, it will require a fair amount of participation from the community.

It would consist of a player ranking system of 1-5. It will be ranked by Dever, Pariah , Danny, Lebros, and Jones. Most players will be ranked as 3's, then fewer 4's and 2's and even fewer 5's and 1's.
Each team will have a point limit of 13 accumulative 'points'. Just to clarify, this will work by adding up the ranking of the team's players.

For example, a team could have a 5, a 4, and two 2's. Adding up to 13.

Teams will be limited to one player that is ranked as a 5, the rest is up to the captain to decide. Teams will consist of 4 players and we will be playing a larger variety of game modes than just the usual CTF.

This will be good for the community since it will teach people to play as a team. If a team is missing a player, a player of equal value, or 'rank', can sub for them. This keeps people from stacking teams. As well as making it easier to find games to play.

It would be a good idea for captains to pick players that they can contact outside of repcom, through text or at the very least email.

Let me know what you think as well as any suggestions or questions for this idea, let's get this going!

Here's a list of players that will be playing, if you don't see your name on the list, make a post or xfire me and let me know you're playing:

007, lebros, endever, deity, jones, mom, rav, angledstar, jwap, pariah, noval, xendor, dom, over, raider x, drift,
venom, danny, cryo, fox, drinka, angelus, phobos, darman, sandking, bill, slim, blitz, hikaru, centreo, zodiac,
voxx, 21, vile, crysis, morph, skate, solace, capgun, divine, blood, dice, gletch, hatter, raxenuk, orvus, azure, tinariwen, ]/ash, xala, keegan, rocky, dragon.

Thanks to Danny we already have the list of players and their rankings after getting all the voters together:

I'd really like to play assault like we used to back in the day. It takes a lot of teamwork and can be a lot of fun. Also I've played King of The Hill in a pub a couple times, I think that has awesome potential. I have no idea where to set that, but i'm sure phobos and maybe danny would.

I'm glad to see people are liking the idea!
I'd like to play assault, and I'd love to give king of the hill a try in a competitive match, we could definitely get those kind of matches some more attention with this.

There are some concerns I've received that haven't been posted on the forums, so I thought I'd address them for everyone to see.
Danny and 007 asked what the point of having team captains and pre-made teams are. So I'll list some pros and cons of having people with pre-made teams, since nothing is set in stone yet, you all can help decide what becomes of this idea.

Some pros:
It would make the game a lot more competitive (haven't seen any scrimms between clans in a long time)
It could help players improve, by getting them to learn to play as a team.
It could introduce new players to scrimms, and teach them callouts, team positions, and strategies.

Some cons:
It would be harder to get all the players of each team on at once (however, you can still have players of equal ranking sub for a missing player)
Some players might not get on a team (they could sub, but this still may be an issue)

If there's anything I'm missing, feel free to let me know. Also, post your opinion on this, whether you want to have solid teams, or just to have teams picked on the spot.

Keep checking back for updates!

Orvus has a reply that he wanted me to post for him:

"This system also raises into question the fact that we might need another server. The last 3 days I've played more 5v5 and above matches than I ever did when I started playing a year ago. If we're going to attempt legitimate competition it needs a basic structure; one private server will not hold as many matches as could possibly happen simultaneously on a high traffic night. I wouldn't rush into buying one just yet, as we haven't even began to try the system but it will more than likely become an issue if this catches on. Also, it would be extremely convienent if someone could add server groups to the teamspeak and tags to their x-fire nicknames. Just things to give thought to."

"If the server thing becomes an issue, we may need to require community contribution. It's unfair to put the burden entirely on the (one?) person paying for RNR right now. The cost broken up between all of the people interested in a real ranking/competitive system would be extremely small; and it would be relatively simple to just set up a community paypal."

I would get bored having the same team every night

I honestly have two servers.. just haven't bothered to take the time to get the other one up and running again.

I could understand getting bored playing with the same people every night, but if you pick players that you enjoy playing with you may not be as bored. If that doesn't work, then you could try being a dedicated sub; since you're likely too be ranked as a 5 (having spoken to some voters earlier) you'll be subbing for team captains, meaning you'll have a wide variety of people to play with.

Or instead of having set teams, just pick teams like we always do but use the ranking system. I honestly don't know how set teams could work, we have to remember that although we all still play, this game is far from being as active as it was back in the day. I have to agree with danny on that one.

I feel like a competitive aspect of this game is needed, also, captains should be picking players that they will be able to contact in ways outside of xfire and teamspeak. Ever wonder how Dever magically makes a 5v5 when there are barely 5 people online? Some people just don't get on xfire much anymore, so I would like to emphasize the point of being able to contact people who aren't 'online' but are able to play. There will be plenty of subbing, I know this community isn't as active as it was a few years ago. I would definitely like to see the ranking system being used outside of just the teams that are set in place. We won't always be 4v4ing; I'm sure people would get tired of that. The ranking system will help scrims be more organized for sure, but as far as being competitive, I think we should keep some set teams. Maybe even have a tag to make the players of a certain team more recognizable.

I think the view point that I'd like to stick with is having scrims go on as normal, but also having these set teams who can play competitively when they choose. Deity mentioned a ladder, I'll talk to Venom about it whenever he get's online or if he sees this post, seeing as he has done ladders in the past.
