It's not too hard to figure out, it's just overwhelming when you try to do it all at once

Start with something easy, like your processor, then from there choose a motherboard (make sure it's compatible with your processor)

Then pick out a graphics card, and RAM

Power supply and hard drive aren't hard to pick out, it's mostly how much you're willing to pay

Optical drive, just double check it has the right connection, (IDE or SATA)

and that's all there is to it :smoke:

save yourself a bunch of money, just go with a quad processor, never buy the latest greatest thing in hardware unless you like wasting money, the price will drop 50% when the next processor releases.
get one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115207
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115055

and don't waste $300 dollars on a SSD.. >.< not worth it IMO, and you don't really need one unless you just have money out the wazoo

okay so i just saved you $400
you can buy TWO monitors, or just one to make it an even $1000 machine

for only 200 you can get this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product
It's still quite a bit better than the core 2's. Lynnfield isn't so bad cost wise.

However, if you go with socket 775, here's a great motherboard for $110 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... p45%20ud3p

With his budget I agree on the SSD, but I wanted to get as close to 1200 as I could ;D It makes a good scratch disk for photoshop though too.

Edit: monitor - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=320-7825

Don't you need DDR3 memory instead of DDR2?

Monitor sucks, if you are the type who cares about that kind of thing. That Dell one I linked to is the cheapest I know of that doesn't.

Also, caviar greens are pretty slow and meant mainly for storage. Not the best choice for a boot drive. Try a caviar black, wd1001fals I think

EDIT:
Cooler Master 690 cases are $55 on newegg.ca, $40 for the US (after rebate). Kimbo and I have them, and it's a great deal if you ask me.

The monitor also doesn't work for me, no HD Component cable slot and I don't wanna spend money on an HDMI Cable and HDMI CaptureCard for my Xbox.

This the case you talking about?

I switched up to the DDR3.

hdmi cable is so cheap if u get the right one. its so bullshit that some sell them for 50 dollar per meter and some sell them for 10 dollar per meter. so you can get them cheap enough.
