Everyone disappeared when team picking started. Without players for captains to pick from, it's pretty hard for anything to get moving. Looking at past tournaments (even though this wasn't exactly a tourney) this is what has pretty much always happened.
I could still see this working for 3v3's or smaller, but I don't feel like that's quite as enjoyable. If anyone would like to take this over then by all means feel free to do so. The most I've lead in this game is a squad, so taking the reins of the whole community (regardless of it only having 40ish active players) is a little much for me. This is why I picked 5 voters who knew the majority of the community well. However, none of those voters really lead this. Dever pressed the idea forward and Danny formatted the list of player rankings. Leaving the majority of decision making up to me, which wasn't exactly something I was ready for. Don't get me wrong, I had thought this idea out for a while before posting it, but there were a lot more details that I had to lay out than I expected.
Unfortunately, with the activity of players rising and dropping at random, I don't exactly see this working that well. Thank you everyone for your support, it was worth a shot to bring something new and different into the community.
Don't get discouraged man... There are more ways to do this without actually relying on everyone to be active. One of them can simply be to rank everyone and choose teams based on rankings.... Teams don't need to be ranked against each other on a system, but players can be. There are in fact systems that can keep track of individual players even if they play on a team. However, you would need to leave it up to the players to make sure the team skill levels did not exceed a certain number of players. Allowing players to choose their teams all the time instead of playing with the same people would not only encourage more activity without teammates on, but it would also encourage people to play with others who may not be in their skill tier and get to know their playing style better. I'll be happy to help you once the semester starts for me. I tend to pull late nights during school.
