Personally I would stick with it, The application process normally improves people in a short amount of time from my experience.

I was inactive for most of 2009 and almost all of 2010, except for watching my brother play; when I decided to play again I had to get back to "that level" to get in. Just play in a pub for a couple hours straight with a sniper rifle and you will improve.
It's been, technically, only 2 pages into your application. Judging by the fact that mine took 12, you can tell that I had far more catching up to do.
